NHL Draft Diaries: Equipment Edition - Michael Misa

Michael Misa is a name that hockey fans and scouts are becoming increasingly familiar with as the 2025 NHL Draft approaches. A native of Oakville, Ontario, the 17-year-old forward is lighting up the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in his third season with the Saginaw Spirit, solidifying his place as one of the top prospects in his draft class.
In his first two seasons in the OHL, Misa demonstrated exceptional offensive ability, scoring above a point-per-game pace each year. This season, he has taken his game to another level, already recording an astonishing 46 points in just 23 games. His explosive start to the 2024-25 season has only heightened expectations, and many scouts are confident he will be a Top 5 pick in next summer’s draft. Misa’s dynamic skill set, offensive instincts, and consistency make him a tantalizing prospect for any NHL team.
While Misa’s on-ice performance has been the primary focus of his ascent, his choice of equipment has also caught the attention of many. The groundwork is being laid for what could be a long-term partnership with CCM. Unlike some other top prospects we’ve featured who are gravitating toward Bauer equipment, Misa has fully embraced CCM’s lineup so far.
As per Canadian Hockey League (CHL) rules, Misa wears CCM gloves, pants, and helmets, but his preference for the brand extends to his stick and skates—areas where players have more freedom to choose. Misa has been using CCM’s new JetSpeed FT7 Pro stick as of late, a model that is currently popular among NHL players. It’s a fitting choice for a player of his caliber, who thrives on quick decision-making and elite puck handling.
Perhaps even more notable is Misa’s selection of skates. About a month ago, he was spotted in boots that were dressed as the re-launched CCM Tacks 652 Pro skates, a modern update of a classic design. These skates were launched with the help of several other NHL players and prospects. For Misa, being part of this exclusive launch group is a testament to the high regard in which CCM holds him—a clear sign that the company sees him as a future star.
With so much of the 2024-25 season still to come, Misa’s continued dominance in the OHL will be closely monitored by scouts and fans alike. Whether he spends additional time in Junior hockey after the draft or makes an immediate impact at the NHL level remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Misa is poised to make waves wherever he plays.
His combination of elite skill, maturity, and brand alignment with CCM makes him not only a top prospect for the NHL but also a marketable young star. As he continues to develop and build on his already impressive résumé, Misa is a player every hockey fan should have their eye on as the 2025 NHL Draft draws near.
